Unable to locate an individual I know is in the Ancestral File
Symptoms (Problems)
  • I am unable to locate an individual that I know is in the Ancestral File.

  • I entered the Ancestral File number, and there were no results.

Answer (Resolution)
  1. On, click on Genealogies.

  2. Remove the check in Pedigree Resource File.

  3. Search for the parents of the individual with their names in the father and mother field and leave all other fields blank.


The Ancestral File has not been updated for over ten years, and in some cases the data could be even older. If someone was living at the time of the submission, then that person will still be considered living, and you may not be able to do a search for him or her by name or number.
