Using the Online Film Ordering Website (JIT: Just in Time)

This document will teach you how to order a microfilm or microfiche using the Online Film Ordering website.
 
The Online Film Ordering website provides services to family history center patrons and patrons of affiliated libraries or societies. On this site, a patron may place loan orders for microfilm and microfiche. Patrons will be able to create an account, retrieve a password, place an order, and cancel an order.

  Place an Order
  1. Go to https://familysearch.org/films and click Sign In. Alternatively, from the Catalog on familysearch.org, click a microfilm or microfiche number. Clicking an item number will redirect the computer to the Online Film Ordering website with the item selected for ordering automatically. Patrons still need to sign in before completing the order.
  2. Set the family history center or affiliate public library where items will be delivered and viewed. Click not set to select a center. Select the country and region, and click Search. All centers will be listed in alphabetical order. Scroll to find one nearby. Click the small circle to select the center. Scroll to the end of the list, and click Save. (If a center was selected for an earlier order, the center name will show rather than "not set.")
  3. Click the title Online Film Ordering in the upper left portion of the screen to return to the order screen after setting the center.
  4. Type in the film number. Click Search. (If you came to the online film ordering website directly from the catalog, and if film information already appears on the screen, you do not need to enter the film number again.)
  5. Click the small circle beside the loan type you desire.
  6. Review the film information, and click Add to Cart.
  7. Review the shopping cart contents. Click X to the right of any item to remove it. Click Continue Shopping to add another item to the order. When the cart has all desired items, click Proceed to Checkout.
  8. Enter or review billing information. Click Continue.
  9. Select the payment method: PayPal or Credit Card. The Credit Card option includes a credit card, debit card, or prepaid card that is branded MasterCard or Visa. Click Continue.
  10. Review the order. Scroll down to read the Microfilm Use Agreement. Click the box above I Accept. Click Edit Your Cart if changes are needed in the order. Click Place Order.
  11. Review shipping and billing information. Note the order number. Fill in payment information. When entering a credit card number, do not use dashes or spaces. Click Place Order.
  12. The order is complete and will begin processing. Click here to print if a copy of the order confirmation is desired. In addition, e-mails will be sent, updating you on the progress of the order.

Check the Status of an Order
  1. Go to https://familysearch.org/films  and sign in.
  2. Directly under the title Online Film Ordering, click My Account.
  3. The Account Dashboard shows recent orders. Click View to see the status of each item in an order.
  4. Scroll down to the Items Ordered. The status of each item will be shown. When an item has been marked as received in the center, the return date will show. When an item is renewed, the new return date or the extended loan status will show.

Please Note: Old orders will remain on the Account Dashboard indefinitely. This will include canceled orders and orders that never moved past the pending status. Old orders with a status of pending will never be charged to your credit card nor PayPal account.
 
Cancel an Order
Each item on an order remains in a pending status for the first twenty-four (24) hours. This allows a patron to cancel the order within that time period. To cancel a pending item, follow the steps below.
  1. Go to https://familysearch.org/films and sign in.
  2. Click My Account directly under the large title Online Film Ordering.
  3. Click View beside the order needing cancelled. Scroll to the Items Ordered to verify the order status is pending.
  4. Scroll up. Directly under the order number, click Cancel Order.
  5. Click OK.
  6. A message will appear confirming the cancellation. 

Manage Online Film Order Account
Patrons can change the family history center or affiliate public library where they want to view films, find the address and telephone number for the center, change the billing address, or make needed changes to the name associated with the account from the Online Film Ordering website. If the account e-mail address needs to be changed, please refer to document 109658 for updating a FamilySearch or LDS Account.
 
My Family History Center
To find the address and telephone number of the center, or to change the center, follow the steps below.
  1. Click My Account directly under the large title Online Film Ordering.
  2. From the list on the right, click My Family History Center. The center name and telephone number will show.
  3. Click Change Family History Center or Find New FHC to select a different center or library where future orders will be delivered. Please note that the change will not affect orders made previously.
  4. Select the country and region desired, and click Search.
  5. Scroll through the alphabetical list to find a center or library for viewing microfilms and microfiche. Click the small circle to select it. Click Save.
  6. The new center or library will now show as your default family history center.
Address Book
To change the billing address or to add a new address, follow the steps below
  1. Click My Account.
  2. From the list on the right, click Address Book.
  3. View the Default Billing Address and any additional addresses that have been entered. Click Change Billing Address to make needed changes.
  4. Fill in contact information, and click Save Address.
  5. An additional address can also be entered by clicking Add New Address. Fill in contact information, and click Save Address.
Account Information
To make changes to the name on an account, follow the steps below. The e-mail address cannot be changed from the Online Film Ordering website.
  1. Click My Account.
  2. From the list on the right, click Account Information.
  3. Make needed changes to the name, and click Save.
