Moving an indexer in or out of a stake or group
Symptoms (Problems)
  • I have moved. How do I move my indexing account to my new stake or group?

  • I am a Stake Indexing Director or Group Administrator, and one of my indexers has moved out of my stake or group. How do I move him/her?

  • A new indexer registered, but did not indicate which stake/group he/she wants to work with.

Answer (Resolution)

Indexers can be moved out of a stake or group in two different ways:

  • Indexers can edit their profile in the indexing program

  • The Stake Indexing Director/Group Administrator can move the indexer  

Indexers should take the responsibility to move themselves because he/she can review all of his/her information and make edits as needed; Stake Indexing Directors/Group Administrators might not know the indexer's new contact information.

 

Instructions for Indexers:

  1. Go to http://indexing.familysearch.org.

  2. Click Sign In.

  3. Log in with LDS or FamilySearch user name and password.

  4. Click Edit at the bottom of the screen.  (Stake Indexing Directors or Group Administrators editing their personal information need to click My Info before clicking Edit.)

  5. Under Additional Indexing Information, type the new stake and ward, or group information, into the appropriate boxes.  Note:  Please review all personal information to make sure everything is current.

  6. Click Save.

Instructions for Stake Indexing Directors/Group Administrators:  (Please teach and encourage local indexers to make the above changes themselves, but if that does not happen, feel free to edit their information.)

 

If the new stake and ward or group information is not known:

  1. Go to http://indexing.familysearch.org.

  2. Click Sign In.

  3. Sign in with LDS or FamilySearch user name and password.

  4. Check the box next to the name of the indexer who has moved.

  5. Click Move Out at the bottom of the screen.

If the new stake and ward or group information is known:

  1. Go to http://indexing.familysearch.org.

  2. Click Sign In.

  3. Sign in with LDS or FamilySearch user name and password.

  4. Click the name of the indexer who has moved.

  5. Click Edit at the bottom of the screen.

  6. Type in the new stake and ward or group information.

  7. Click Save.

Note:  Indexers who have moved or registered without selecting a Country, LDS stake, or Group, can be moved into the appropriate unit by editing his/her own profile information as shown under "Instructions for Indexers" above, or the new Stake Indexing Director/Group Administrator can move an indexer into the new new unit by:

  1. Go to http://indexing.familysearch.org

  2. Click Sign In.

  3. Sign in with LDS or FamilySearch user name and password.

  4. Click the Search tab in the upper left corner of the screen.

  5. Type a user name or first and last name of indexer.

  6. Click Search.

  7. Click to checkmark the box to the left of the indexer who needs to be moved.

  8. Click Move To.

  9. Click OK on Message From Webpage screen.

  10. Click OK to browse the containers

  11. Type the name of the unit the indexer is going to be moved to.

  12. Click Search.

  13. Click the appropriate location.

  14. Click Move In.
