Images in Historical Records are slow to load due to insufficient RAM
Symptoms (Problems)

Retrieving images is slow.

Answer (Resolution)

Slow program performance is typically caused by insufficient system memory. A minimum of 512MB of RAM is recommended on a computer running Windows XP. For computers running Windows Vista or Windows 7, the minimum recommended RAM is 2GB to display images from Historical Records. More RAM is preferred if possible.

To determine how much RAM is on your computer:

  1. Click Start.

  2. Click Control Panel.

  3. Double-click System, and a new window should pop up, similar to the one below. The amount of memory available on the computer displays. In this example, the computer has 1GB of RAM, which is twice the recommended minimum of 512MB.

For Windows Vista and Windows 7:

  1. Click Start.

  2. Click Control Panel.

  3. Double-click System, and a new window should pop up, similar to the one below. The amount of memory available on the computer displays.  In this example, the computer has 2.91GB of RAM, which is more than the minimum.
